contingency fees for non injuries?
« on: January 31, 2006, 03:52:27 PM »

i didnt see an answer to this anywhere so im going to ask it.

i need a lawyer but i cant come up with a lot of money up front. if i win i will get a big judgement and i would share that with the lawyer.

it is not a car crash. it is a business partner fight.

thanks

It is very rare to find a lawyer who will take such a case on a 100% contingent basis - some will do it for their fees but not their estimated and actual (very big) expenses.

Watch for those that try to make it sound like they "can't." They can, they won't on a pure business basis.

Exceptions are class actions and such, but not a potential save the small guy/gal from evil partners case.

There is very little civil justice for folks without deep pockets.

Of course, the above is not legal advice, just my non-lawyer opinion. Hopefully, one of the lawyers on the board will chime in too.

I've heard of, but never dealt with lawsuit financing organizations and investors that pay for the cost of the legal action in exchange for a piece of the settlement. I'm sure they want a BIG piece. Make sure they have no recourse to collect from you if you don't win.

Good luck!
