Am I doing the right thing?
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:46:23 PM »

Okay, my situation is really complicated and I just need help to know if I am doing the right thing. First off I have a 13 week old little boy with my boyfriend. My boyfriend and I live together, but the Friday after New Years I left with our son to go stay at my mom's because I was not getting the help and support from my boyfriend that my son and myself needed. I had felt that my boyfriend wasn't doing this basically since our son had been born, which was a stressful enough time in itself because our son was 8 weeks premature. So that night when I told my boyfriend I was leaving I never ended our relationship or anything I just needed to make a stand and do something healthy for myself and our son My boyfriend made me move out all my stuff the next day and then Sunday we met and talked everything out and were fine. HOWEVER, he told me that he wanted me to sign something stating that he had joint physical and joint custody. He said that it would give him the security that I couldn't just leave and take our son again. His mom basically put in his head that if I didn't do this I didn't love him. I stayed at my parents house for a total of two weeks with our son. My boyfriend would come and stay with us and all that. I moved back into our house exactly two weeks after I had to move my stuff out. I signed a legal document stating that we both had custody and I did it because I love him and he is our sons dad and I honestly don't see us not being together after the history we have (we actually lost our first son shortly after his birth just over a year ago). My only thing is now we have a court date because I guess the clerk said that when it is a case with chidlren involved it may have to go in front of a judge. I don't know what to expect really and my aunt told me that by doing this I could be screwing myself later in  life if we ever did seperate and have to go to court because a judge would look at me and wonder why I did this. I don't know if this is true and if I should get an attorney or what to do.... please help.
