checks and banks help me

hi i was sent a check in the mail for 3,950 i did not know where it came from but on the letter told me to deposit it and i did i called the bank 2 day later and they said that the check did not clear but i had a 100 dollar available balance so i walked down  to the closest bank and took out the 100 dollars well they called me yesterday and told me it was a counter fit check and i i don't pay  the money by tomorrow the 26 of Feb they would file a police report i told them i know i have to pay them back but i have no income only welfare which i get it on the 28 i am a single mother of 2 having a really hard time in life right now i really don't know what to do and what will happen i don't want to get in trouble and loss my kids ova something i thought was the way out of all my hard times ...now i am stuck and don't can you please give me some advice on that i should do or what the process will be i have asked the bank if they could give me a lil time and they said no if i did not pay they were going to press charges for the total around

same thing happen to me  police could not charge because i did not write it or knowing know the check was bad so i beat it   good luck Robbie
